New Adventures has been working with environmental charity Julie’s Bicycle over the past year to pilot a new Creative Green certification for the touring sector.
Our 2018/19 UK tour of Swan Lake was the first Creative Green Certified tour and we are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded 4 out of a possible 5 stars.
Creative Green recognises and celebrates environmental best practice of events, venues, museums, galleries, festivals and offices using the transparent and methodical Creative Green Framework. Organisations are awarded between one and five stars based on points awarded for commitment, understanding and improvement. It is the only environmental certification scheme designed specifically for the creative and cultural industries. There are over 60 Creative Green certified organisations in the UK.
On the tour we made changes across all areas of the company and engaged with our venue partners and audiences around sustainability. This included sharing our Green Rider with all the venues we visited, Green Champions appointed in the touring company and a dedicated Green Adventures page in the show programme. We even changed the make up used for the swan beaks to a more environmentally friendly option.
Matthew Bourne, Artistic Director said:"New Adventures is proud to have piloted the first Creative Green certification for the touring sector and I am delighted that our efforts and achievements have been recognised with this four star rating. There is still so much more we can do, as a company and within our industry, to address the climate emergency and we will continue to explore ways to be greener in all areas of our company."
