Following the success of our 'Dancers in Residence' at William Patten and London Fields Primary School we brought this whole school performance project to Roger Ascham Primary School as part of Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019.
This particular project saw each year group learn a section from Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!
Dance Artists and long-standing company members Michela Meazza and Gavin Eden delivered this unforgettable experience, culminating in a performance at Walthamstow's Assembly Hall in March 2019 to over 1,000 people. Every child at the school, nearly 500 in total, had the chance to take part in this creative dance project and embark on an astonishing journey of discovery.
This was a very special project as our Artistic Director, Matthew Bourne, grew up in Walthamstow and attended Roger Ascham. To find out more about what went on watch our video below as well as checking out our photo galleries from the project.
Waltham Forest is the Mayor’s first London Borough of Culture. The year will explore the themes ‘Radicals’, ‘Makers’ and ‘Fellowship’ in a collaboration between local residents, artists and creatives creating a once in a life time celebration of the place we call ‘home’. Waltham Forest, London Borough of Culture 2019 will shine a light on the character, diversity and cultures of the borough, the things we have in common and the things that make us different, a year-long celebration of the real cultures of London by the people who live here.
