Shani Kantor

Overture 2024/2025 cohort

Shani is an emerging dance theatre and movement artist and teacher. As a queer, working class artist, it is extremely important to Shani to make work which not only represents but champions queerness and those from different socioeconomic backgrounds that are often not seen in the dance industry/ in dance theatre. Much of their introduction and experiences in the arts, is due to high quality community dance and theatre opportunities which were made accessible to them throughout their life- including attending subsidised professional training. Their practice centers around empowering dancers and the core belief that dance should be for everyone, regardless of identity or background. Shani is also currently supported by Chichester Festival Theatre on their Artist Development Programme, where they are developing their artistic practice and first original dance production. So far their work at Chichester has explored building community with queer dancers. Offering workshops which provide a space for all dancers to explore their own dance artistry beyond heteronormative or binary expectations which are free to attend.
