Brett MorrisAssociate Artist
Brett Morris was born in New Zealand and studied orchestral conducting and piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, London.
He also holds an MA (with distinction) from Roehampton University. For the past seventeen years Brett has been Musical Director and Principal Conductor for New Adventures, and he is also an Associate Artist of the company.
Brett has conducted Sir Matthew Bourne’s award-winning production of Swan Lake in London and throughout the UK, the US, Europe and Japan. He has also given the world premieres and subsequent revivals of Edward Scissorhands, The Car Man (which won the Evening Standard award for Best Musical Event in 2000), Nutcracker! and Highland Fling for the company, and has recorded (for CD, DVD and live cinema broadcast) all of New Adventures current repertoire.
Since 1998 he has had an on-going professional relationship with Northern Ballet, and he returned to them this season to conduct David Nixon’s productions of The Nutcracker and Swan Lake in Leeds and on tour throughout the UK. Brett has conducted Ashton’s Cinderella and Makarova’s Sleeping Beauty for the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He has also been a guest conductor for Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Norwegian National Ballet and The Royal Ballet of Flanders.
For several years Brett was a Guest Conductor of English Touring Opera (The Magic Flute, The Rake’s Progress, La Traviata and Carmen). He has also conducted for English Festival Opera at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, and for Carl Rosa Opera on tour throughout the UK.
