From Lord of the Flies to the Royal Ballet School

1 January 2015
We’re delighted to celebrate the news that 11 year old George Jennings from Blackpool, pictured here with Artistic Director, Matthew Bourne, has been offered a place at the Royal Ballet School, White Lodge.

George was one of the youngest dancers to participate in the 2014 national tour of Lord of the Flies. Part of the Young Ensemble at the The Lowry George was selected from over 800 boys from across the North West to participate in the project.

Since the project concluded late last year many of the boys and young men we met across the country are now embarking on professional training in a variety of schools and conservatoires.

Matthew Bourne, Artistic Director said today: “All of us in the Lord of the Flies company remember George and his energy and passion for dance. We knew he had bags of potential and I am delighted that The Royal Ballet School have recognised his talent."

James Mackenzie-Blackman, Executive Director for Re:Bourne said: “Lord of the Flies aimed to find, discover, nurture and inspire a generation of future dancers. George’s desire to dedicate much of his teenage years to dance training is a testament to the huge team at New Adventures and Re:Bourne who delivered our nationwide project. I’m especially grateful to Samantha Broadbent and Luke Saville, two inspiring Community Dance Artists, who discovered George during their extensive outreach programme."
