Etta Murfitt

Associate Artistic Director

Etta joined the company in 1991 and is the associate artistic director of New Adventures and Re:Bourne.

She has performed in numerous New Adventures and AMP productions including The Percys of Fitzrovia, Deadly Serious, Town and Country, The Infernal Galop, the role of Madge in Highland Fling, Clara in the original production of Nutcracker! with Opera North and Matron/Queen Candy; Rita in The Car Man; the French and Spanish princesses and the Queen in Swan Lake (West End, LA, Broadway); Judy in the original 1997 production of Cinderella (LA, West End) and Peg Boggs in the original production of Edward Scissorhands.

As associate director, Etta has re-staged most of New Adventures’ productions, including Swan Lake, Early Adventures, Dorian Gray, Edward Scissorhands, Highland Fling, The Car Man, Play Without Words, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and The Red Shoes.

Etta is an associate artist with the Kneehigh Theatre Company. Choreography for them includes Wild Bride, Midnight’s Pumpkin, Steptoe and Son, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Tin Drum and Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs) directed by Mike Shephard for which she was also assistant director. Etta performed for Kneehigh in Wild Bride and Tristan and Yseult.

Etta is also an associate artist at the Globe for whom she has choreographed A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Match Girl, Twelfth Night and Romantics Anonymous.

Other credits include: A Chorus of Disapproval (Harold Pinter Theatre, director Trevor Nunn); Rufus Norris’s Sleeping Beauty (Birmingham Rep); Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (Chichester Festival Theatre and Theatre Royal Haymarket, director Trevor Nunn); Le Nozze di Figaro (Holland Park Opera, director Martin Lloyd-Evans); The Way of the World (Wilton’s Music Hall, directed by Selina Cadell); A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Dawn French (Albery Theatre, directed by Matthew Francis) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (West Yorkshire Playhouse, director Sarah Esdaile).

Television and Film includes: Clara in Nutcracker!(BBC/NVC); Rita in The Car Man (Channel 4); Swan Lake, Late Flowering Lust, Roald Dahl’s Red Riding Hood and Mrs Hartley and the Growth Centre (all BBC); Storm (Aletta Collins/BBC Dance for the Camera) and Matthew Bourne’s Christmas (Channel 4).
