Shay Debney


Born in Brisbane Shay moved to Melbourne to study ballet full-time at The Australian Ballet School, where he did for two years under the direction of Marilyn Rowe. While at the ballet school he also completed a year at NIDA’s Young Actors Studio. Shay then went on to study musical theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) under Margot Fenley's direction. During his time at the VCA he performed in Li’l Abner (dir. Martin Croft), Urinetown (dir. Alister Smith), a Showbites Project (dir. Scott Johnson) and got to be a swing and in the ensemble of 42nd Street (dir. Gary Young). Since graduating at the end of 2015 with his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Shay has appeared as a guest artist in the Queensland Ballet’s production of Strictly Gershwin (Derek Deane) dancing new tap choreography by Brisbane’s very own William Simpson of Red Hot Rhythm. He most recently appeared in the Hayes Theatre Company’s production of Mack & Mabel (dir. Trevor Ashley) as a member of the ensemble. He is also a member of Melbourne’s local tap dancing duo tap.jack who are regularly seen busking throughout the city as well as performing for private events.
