Philip King

Philip was born in Lancaster and had his early training at the Joan Ward School and Ludus Youth Dance Company. In 2006 he moved to London to train at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. After graduating he danced with Rambert Dance Company performing in the UK premiere of A Linha Curva by Itzic Galili and in 2009 joined Vienna Festival Ballet dancing principal roles in the Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.

Following some guest work for Ballet Riviera in Switzerland, Philip moved to New York City to join New York Theatre Ballet where he danced leading roles including lago in José Limón’s The Moor’s PavaneLight Flooding into Darkened Rooms by Richard Alston, Merce Cunningham’s Septet and works by Antony Tudor including the fifth song and variation in Dark Elegies, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, and Tarantella in Soiree Musicale

Philip has had roles created for him in new commissions including Short Memory (2013) by Pam Tanowitz, Mr Benjamin in Chase Brock’s Bark! (2013), and the Nutcracker Prince in Keith Michael’s The Nutcracker (2011). 

After returning to the UK Philip danced with English National Ballet in their production of Romeo and Juliet by Derek Deane, before joining New Adventures & Re:Bourne in 2014 to dance the roles of Sam and Eric in Lord of the Flies’ Philip then appeared as a guest artist for Ballet West, to perform the role of Mercutio in Daniel Job’s new production of Romeo and Juliet (2015) before rejoining New Adventures for the 2015/16 tour of Sleeping Beauty
