Damian Meredith

Damian started his performance journey with dance when he was 3 year’s old, doing tap classes. From there, he branched out into Jazz, Hip-hop, Contemporary and Ballet. In 2008 he began at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in the dance program, where he discovered an aptitude for acrobatics. Damian performed as a child ensemble in Graeme Murphy’s adaption of Nutcracker in 2009. He also took on a role as a dancer/acrobat in Baz Luhrmann’s version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2010.

In order to pursue a new interest in acrobatics, Damian left the dance program at VCASS after year 10, and transferred to the National Institute of Circus Arts, where he trained through 2012-2013. NICA was a gateway for an endless variety of skills including aerial acrobatics, hand-balancing, fire and object manipulation.

This brought Damian towards the end of his High-School life, which overlapped with him becoming a dance, acrobatics, and circus teacher for various abilities. He was intrigued by music festival scene, and began getting involved in these large-scale arts events via performance. These include ‘After Dark’, a group circus show performed at Falls Festival Marion Bay in 2013/14, and the Opening Ceremony of Earthcore’s 20th Anniversary in 2013. Damian continues to perform dance, circus and performance art at such events, as he finds they are a fun platform for performance practice.

Damian is now training at Transit Dance, where he started in second year 2016, expanding as much physical ability as possible, particularly in contemporary dance. Damian is hoping to keep learning about movement, art and self, and is in the process of planning and creating works of his own.
